Making the right improvements to your house and spending enough — but no more — on the work is especially important in today’s market.

The biggest – and least expensive – thing you can do is clear out the clutter and deep clean your home from top to bottom. You are getting ready to move anyway, so start boxing up the items that you won’t need for a while – seasonal clothing and sports equipment, extra dishes or decorations, etc. While you are going through everything, really look at your things and if it is something that you no longer need, donate it to a local charity or donation center!

Once you have the excess ‘stuff’ cleared out and the nooks and cranny’s clean and sparkling, you can see if you home needs updating at all. If you choose to update, a coat of paint is a great first step to brighten the walls and help everything feel new.

Don’t forget to take some time to work on the yard too. Curb appeal is huge, and some buyers won’t even get out of the car if the exterior of your home looks shabby. Pull the weeds, water the plants, smooth out the rocks or fill in the mulched areas. Sprucing up your exterior is another great way to increase your chances of getting a better offer.

Doing the prep work before listing your home will always help! You want your home to look it’s best in listing photos, and once your home is on the market, you want the first impression on buyers to be a positive one that wow’s them with how great your home is!
